Our FLM machines are perfect for lapping and polishing with loose abrasive or flat honing with fixed abrasive wheels, and we know the right process for your application
If you are focused on cost, flexibility, and reliability with the highest possible precision in your production, our FLM lapping machines are right for you. Whether you are grinding gear wheels with Ø 1 mm or housing plates with Ø 1000 mm, we have the right machine for you.
In the production of small and big series is a flexible production with high stock removal and highest precision required. This machine series is designed for these requirements and convinces with the In-Process measuring, automatic dressing and re-sharpening station and flexibility.
Our portfolio includes a manual and a full automatic version.
The impressive DLM series, developed using the competence of the Stähli Group, is capable of flat honing with diamond / CBN wheels or alternatively precision grinding with conventional SiC or
CORUNDUM working wheels.
Large production quantities with high stock removal demand high performance, precision, and productivity. The DLM machine series meets this requirement and is focused on user-friendliness and safety.
The FH3 machine series has been developed for operation with automation. These machines have two lower grinding wheels, which can be swiveled 180°. Because of this, the processing down time is very short.
While one set of work pieces are being honed, a second set of honed parts on the second lower wheel are unloaded and unfinished work pieces loaded.
The FH3 series are also available with automation solutions.
The new Stähli FH3-805 Automation with Staubli RX 160 Robot was purpose built for round magnetic work-pieces like inner and outer Rings for balls bearings. It serves a large range from 25 to 250mm rings with height up to 80mm.
The FH3-805 machines uses two lower wheel, pinrings and carrier-sets and swivels by 180°, once a load of work pieces is ground and work pieces are exchanged by the robot Automation on the other side, to start the next cycle. The swivel motion is fast and the down time for the robot is kept to a minimum.
Ground work pieces (diameter 100mm for example) typically offer parallelism below 2µm, Flatness below 1µm, thickness deviation within the load of around 1-2µm. Deviation from load to load 1-2µm depending on good grinding wheels, oil temp. etc.
3 machines are used for cylindrical lapping: CLM 150-2, CLM 500 & FLM 500-R.
On the FLM 500-R the work pieces get lapped with the 2-wheel principle. This is ideal for middle series production of parts Ø 0.7-30 and a length of 2-200mm. It is possible to convert the machine to a FLM 500 flat lapping machine in a short amount of time.
The CLM 150-2 has 2 pairs of lapping rollers with individual speed control. We can manufacture parts of Ø 6-150mm and a length up to 150mm on this machine. We often use different diamond suspension on the roller pairs. The result is a roughing and a finishing pair of rollers. According to the requirement of the work piece, one or both roller pairs can be used.
The CLM 500 is for bigger work pieces of Ø6-150mm and a length up to 500mm. In the most cases single parts or small groups of parts get produced by hand. For large groups of parts, we equip the machine with an automatic pressure device and a programmable sprayer. As a result, the machine only has to be loaded and unloaded.
Decades of experience in building flat-polishing machines for the optical industry. These machines have been developed together with leading companies in the optical industry and are therefore optimally adapted to the client’s needs. We focus on 24/7 production, rock solid build and easy of use.
If you are aiming for manufacturing with the highest precision in the nano-range,
our pitch-polishing machines FLM 750-P or FLM 4000-P fully meet this requirement.
If you strive for highest accuracy with high removal rates, our foil-polishing machines
FLM 750-F or FLM 3000-F meets these demands.
If you are looking for a customised special construction matched to your requirements,
benefit from our knowledge and decades of experience supplying machines such as :

Flat-honing - also called fine-grinding - is a machining process with bonded grain. The work pieces are
inserted in carrier wheels which form planetary kinematics with the inner and outer pin ring.
The work piece is machined on the top and bottom or optionally also on one side. Large quantities
of material can be removed in one work operation, but also the most precise roughness's
and flatness's can be achieved.
Lapping is defined as machining using a grain distributed loosely in a paste or liquid - lapping mixture - This is applied to a lapping tool - most often one that provides shaping - where the cutting tracks of the individual grains are largely non-directional.

All types and sizes of work pieces in all possible materials and practically any required quality level can be machined.
Polishing is a micro-finishing process which is used depending on the required surface quality.
Thereby, both optical, shiny surfaces, as well as technical aspects play a role. The polishing
process is used in combination with other processes such as polishing lapping or also polishing honing.

(natural or synthetic diamonds).
Optical polishing is a special form of polishing.
The work pieces are usually polished on foil or pitch. A polishing liquid, for example water with added cerium oxide, is used. This liquid flows in large quantities on the foil / pitch wheel and is circulated through filters and a mixing tank. The material removal rate is very low and the processing time is usually several hours. To minimize this time, the parts are lapped and / or polished on a conventional machine prior to optical polishing.
The achieved flatness and roughness results in optical polishing are in the nanoscale.
